Job stuff
To paraphrase a phone conversation I just had
[11 am. Phone rings]
Jed: Hello
Nathan: Hey we have a job opening up. Kelly will get you an offer next week or so then you can put in your two weeks. I'll probably be your boss.
Jed: Awesome!

So it looks like I'll be a government employee in a month. I'm not really too concerned about pay. I know the general benefits package I'll get and, I figure even if pay is at the low end, 50k is plenty for me right now. I'd rather be happy at work.

A friend being your boss sounds like a recipe for disaster. Good luck with that.

Or it can be awesome. My new boss actually started a week after I did. We shared an office together for a few months and became pretty good friends. Working for her is much more relaxed than before and we both completely trust eachother. It's nice to actually be able to give/receive objective feedback without worrying about office politics.
